One of the biggest mistakes aspirating authors make is to start writing their nonfiction book, thinking that they have to send a complete manuscript to agents or publishers. No-one will take you seriously without a book proposal, a marketing document that outlines not only what your book is about, but why you are the person to write it, and how it differs from similar books.

 

Even if you plan to self-publish or write a short e-book, creating an outline before you begin is essential. Today's readers want succinct, well-organized, highly informative, readable material...you will be better equipped to give them exactly that when you've taken time to think everything through before you begin.
